Visiting D.C. in 2025

I recently made a little pitstop in Washington DC to take some photos and thought I would do us all a favor and stop at the White House and give them my love…

Now I hadn’t been to DC since my 8th-grade field trip, and visiting over a decade later felt like stepping into a completely different world.

The atmosphere was tense, almost eerie—like something out of a dystopian film. Barricades surrounded the White House, a stark reminder of just how fragile our so-called democracy has become. The city felt locked down and overly guarded.

The American flags flying everywhere didn’t give off this feeling of freedom… like they’re meant to. All I felt seeing our country’s flag was fear. The ideals they’re supposed to represent—liberty, equality, justice—have been twisted into something unrecognizable.

Trump and his followers want control, not democracy. They want to strip away our rights and turn this country into something it was never meant to be.

As a trans man, I see my community being attacked every day, losing rights we fought so hard to gain. What’s free about that? Where’s the liberty in having our existence debated and legislated out of public life? How can we call this the land of the free when our existence is constantly up for debate?

But something that stood out to me the most was the birds. Thousands of them were circling us, watching, almost like they were sending a message. It felt like a warning—like they knew something we didn’t. It felt a little too symbolic… like nature was warning us about the state of this country.

So I hope you’ll take the time to look through this series and really appreciate the shots I took. There’s a lot more meaning behind them than you might think.
